Terminologists
Our terminologists play a vital role at Transeam. They are experts in the usage and translation of rare and highly specific terminology. Due to the under-development of Chinese language for this specialised field, much of the terminology simply does not exist in dictionaries and there is no standard translation for many terms. Our terminologists research language use in the industry and are essentially writing our own Chinese-English dictionary for the sector.
Industry Consultants
Transeam also draws upon the expertise of industry specialists including geologists, mining engineers, mine electricians and finance professionals. We use consultants from both the English, and the Chinese-speaking world, and those who are familiar with the Chinese mining industry. Consultants aid our terminologists in understanding how certain terms describe real world situations, and also provide a basis for our translators’ industry-specific training courses.

Gareth Hayes
Director
While studying at a Chinese university, Gareth was astounded to see that as one of the largest developing countries to trade with the western world, China suffered from a severe lack of quality translation at even government level (as a hobby, he began gathering pictures of Chinglish). With strong ties to the mining industry, and after witnessing many instances of embarrassment and miscommunication on a corporate level, he recognised the need for better communication between Chinese mining industry professionals and their western counterparts. Gareth has over 5 years experience in Mainland China as well as 2 years in Hong Kong, and speaks a number of Chinese dialects.

Alvin Ngan
Managing Director
Alvin has over 20 years’ experience in operational and quality control management. He has implemented management system processes for numerous multinationals, including Walmart, Rewe, K-mart, Target and Aldi. Alvin has extensive hands-on implementation experience with standards compliance for ISO 9001:2000 quality control systems and processes.

Zheng Dan
China Operations Manager
Zheng Dan has been in the translation industry for over 10 years and has previously worked as a translation manager at a publicly-listed Chinese translation company based in Beijing, where she was responsible the management of timely and accurate translations from her team of 30 translators. She then joined Transeam as a translation manager and has since been appointed as the China Operations Manager. Zheng Dan has a Bachelor of English Literature and is a NAATI approved translator.
